Official Launch of Asian Alliance Against Torture and Ill-treatment (A3T)

Advocacy Forum-Nepal feels the pleasure to announce the official launch of the Asian Alliance against Torture in Kathmandu, Nepal. A3T is a regional level initiative against torture and ill-treatment that aims to mitigate and eliminate torture with impunity in Asian countries including Nepal.

A group of 30 leading human rights defenders, lawyers, and organizations from Asian countries met together and discussed on a deep rooted problems and challenges in prevention of torture and ill-treatment in the changed human rights context and concluded a two-day workshop on “Strategic Litigation on Human Rights in Asia” and agreed to form a unique regional level initiative to challenge the prevailing culture of torture and ill-treatment in Asian countries.

Advocacy Forum-Nepal is a part of a regional initiative and took lead in Nepal to convene an international level workshop on strategic litigation and launch of a regional level campaign against torture and ill-treatment.

Asia Alliance Against Torture (A3T) as a collaborative movement could do several advocacy approaches such as fact-finding mission, international mechanism, universal jurisdiction and collaborative campaign throughout the Asia countries not only to share the knowledge the importance of preventing torture but also to demand to the government to establish and implement fully the anti-torture mechanism according to the international human rights standards.
